Allergic Reactions

Reactive Skin

By having a firm understanding of allergic reactions we can work with active formulations and ingredients that initiate changes in the skin. There is a distinction between an allergic reaction and the activation of skin function.

A true allergic reation must have:

  • Heat
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Itching
  • Raised Bumps

Redness alone is not an allergic reaction.  When the blood supply to the skin increases redness may occur. It may be a sign of improved skin function. Redness and heat do not necessarily imply an allergic reaction.

By having a consultation we can assertain if you are having a 'true' allergic reaction to an ingredient or not.

Reactivity

Reactivity is the effect of imbalance in internal processes.  The skin needs to return to Homeostasis - the ability  to regulate physiologically to ensure stability in responsee to fluctuations in the outside environment.  Simply calming the reactivity will not restore the skin's optimal function.
